WS FTP Upload Example

To demonstrate the process of uploading a file, the steps to upload a file from your computer to a Unix lab account on one of the DEC alpha servers in McBryde 116 Va Tech Computer Science Dept lab, (assuming you have Unix lab account and it has been activated). Uploading files to other machines is very similiar.

Please follow these instructions as you read through the tutorial.

  1. Start up WS FTP as described earlier.


  2. Edit the screen that appears such that it looks like the following:




    Make sure that you type in your userid in the place of jfinney and your password on the lab server doberman.cs.vt.edu, (your unix account), in the password field.


  3. Now click on OK to connect to doberman.


  4. Select a file from your computer, (the left hand side), that you want to upload to doberman. Now double click on the file (or select and click on the right arrow, '->', button).


  5. You should be presented with a transfer status box similar to the one you had encountered previously for the Eudora download.

  6. Congratulations, you've uploaded a file to doberman using WS FTP.
