Uploading Your Web Pages

The VT Filebox

If you are a Virginia Tech student or employee with an active PID, you can get a Filebox in which to put your WWW pages. Filebox is a service that provides users with filespace on a WEB server machine, without having to give each user a login account.

To get a filebox, email your request to filebox@vt.edu. Be sure to include your PID. Allow at least 3-5 work days for your filebox request to be processed.

Accessing Filebox:

  • Hostname: www.vt.edu
  • Userid: [your VT PID]
  • Password: [your VT PID password]
  • Directory: /filebox/[your filebox directory path]

Here's a brief step-by-step description of how to upload HTML documents to a Vt filebox. For more detailed info go to the VT Filebox site.

Filebox Notes:

  • File boxes that aren't updated within 18 months or that belong to former students or employees are deleted from the server.
  • New student fileboxes are created with a quota of 1Mb.
  • Filebox does not support Web page FTP, and .exe, .zip, .ppt, or CGI-scripts
