Our research focuses on optimizing the quality of service of distributed applications as delivered by advanced performance management technologies. Our research integrates distributed measurement techniques with existing node and network management tools to collect data for estimating and evaluating application quality of service. Our focus is on operational (i.e. run time execution) management of distributed applications for enterprise computing. Our research is augmented with work in application design methods, visualization of program behavior, and intelligent management agents. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Job 38880 - Predictive Modeling Researcher This individual will focus on advanced performance modeling technology development and evaluation. Working with team members, she/he will research applying analytic modeling techniques to predict the behavior of distributed applications so that system managers can conduct "what-if" analyses for various configuration options. These models will be integrated into the performance management architecture. Next, the individual will apply analytic techniques to application development methodologies to predict application behavior during the design phase. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Job 38636 - Performance Management Researcher This individual will focus on advanced performance management technology evaluation and development. Working with team members, she/he will research new concepts in performance measurement and management and rapidly design and prototype an experimental testbed for evaluating alternatives and validating concepts. Furthermore, this individual will identify the unique technology contributions that are independent of a particular implementation. Additional responsibilities and expectations for both positions include: * Energetic, organized, self-motivated and team-oriented individuals. * Work with product R&D labs to prototype, customize and transfer research that addresses customer requirements and product business needs. * Convey ideas clearly in presentations and writing. * Flexible, able to work in an evolving environment. * Active in the software and performance engineering research community. MUST: MS degree (CS or equiv discipline) with research experience or PhD. Demonstrated experience in computer system performance evaluation or measurement. Experience in design and development of large software systems, preferably distributed applications. Demonstrated strong object-oriented C++ programming ability. DESIRED: Three to five years experience in industrial or enterprise systems.
