Objectives

This Unit has the following objectives, for students to be able to:

1. describe the benefits of stemming as compared to using words, or performing morphological analysis, or having users specify truncation or regular expressions;

2. write high-level pseudocode for algorithms to carry out stopword removal or stemming; and

3. compare and synthesize the findings from the many studies undertaken of stemming methods.
