Objectives

From the Course Objectives in the Syllabus an important goal is to: read and understand research contributions ...; you will gain experience by reading the two CACM articles, by the in-class discussion, and by the series of lectures about a broad range of research investigations.

This Unit has the following objectives, for students to be able to:

1. design a component for an IR-related system that can implement the idea of unlimited aliasing;

2. describe in general terms how memory and NLP methods can help with phrase identification and term disambiguation; and

3. describe some of the key issues and potentials of KBIR.
