The Community Arts Network is an organization that has a number of articles and other resources available online in a mostly-static form. However, due to the volume of data and processing time required, they wish to move towards a digital library model of a more managed and dynamic collection of web pages.
It is not entirely clear that they need a fully database-driven website with all the usual digital library services. However, the static webpages are not easy to maintain either. A possible middle ground solution would be to provide web management services to help manage the data, and use open source and free components (like the customizable Google interface) to provide the missing services.
This project is to develop a prototype website, together with a suite of tools for management of the website and website components.
The philosophy behind this project is that not every information management problem is solved by a digital library - sometimes all you need is a fancy website.
