The campus has a number of efforts to support teaching using video streaming. However, we need a large storage system and powerful software to extend those efforts. We hope to use the PetaPlex for the storage since it stores 2.5 terabytes of disk content.
In this project we aim to develop support for video streaming, working with Paul Mather (a CS GRA) who is funded by IBM to connect their VideoCharger software to the PetaPlex.
In particular, this will involve installing the VideoCharger software on an RS/6000, and getting it to work locally on that system. Then Paul will assist by making the PetaPlex look like a disk on the RS/6000. We then will find content (digital video files) on campus and provide streaming support for that content for the campus (and distance learning student) community.
