Project Suggestion: IIT Project on Database Information Retrieval

• Required background: interest in database and information retrieval technology
• Description:

  The group at IIT is interested in collaboration with our group on performance testing of their technology for using database systems (e.g., Oracle) for information retrieval (e.g., text searching). See their online information on Information Retrieval Projects.

  This project will involve installing their sofware on one or more of the large campus Sun Enterprise servers with multiple processors, getting it to work (with help from IIT), and starting to run performance tests to compare it with our local systems (handled by others, such as with MARIAN and PetaPlex).
