- The Table of Contents now has Summaries of Articles and Summaries of Class Sessions which have been updated and reorganized to be more useful.
News on 95/12/5
- See updated info below about final, opscan, photos, etc.
- There is a new entry, "Review," on the course home page to
help you in your studies.
News on 95/12/2
- Some students have not yet identified their photos in the class
materials. This was requested of all students and is a required
effort. Please check the files and give me the needed info. if you
have not yet had time.
- Students are also obligated to complete the post-test. Please
use the opscans provided, or just mail in a file of lines,
each with question number and response number.
News on 95/12/1
- This news files has been shortened to eliminate old information.
- Deadline for all quizes and exercises is 11:49pm 12/14/95. No work
turned in after that will be graded. It is unlikely that
there will be a chance for students to make revisions or extra
explanations on quizes or exercises turned in after 12/12.
- The final is open book, open notes, open access to the Internet.
The Honor Code is in effect and all work must be your own.
Two hours is the time period allowed; you must stop after 2 hrs.
You may download the final in advance if you are worried about
connections, but must only spend 2 hours working on it.
- The Blacksburg final is 1:05-3:05pm on 12/14 as originally
scheduled. It will be in McB 659A.
- The No. VA final will 6:30-8:30pm on 12/11. Professor Fox will
be at x1-5113 reachable directly from phones in the building,
or remotely at 540/231-5113 or by computer connection using
mail or "talk" over the internet to fox@fox.cs.vt.edu if there are
questions. The 1st floor lab and the 3rd floor lab will be open.
- All quizes and assignments and other materials for the course
are available.
News on 95/11/25
- The Blacksburg class on Tue. 11/28 will be held in McB 110.
Students will be videotaped and put short movies about them on the WWW.
Other multimedia activities will take place so students get hands-on
experience in the Information Access Lab.
News on 95/11/16
- There seem to be network problems from No. VA to Blacksburg. It
may be general problems on the internet or with the carrier (Sprint).
We are working on this matter. Meanwhile, keep trying and be patient.

- The GTA requests that all email have a helpful Subject line, to help with
grading and filing. So, please have something like one of the following:
- 5604b DL exercise submission by Thomas, Johnson and Ortega
- 5604n IF quiz A clarification
- 5604b FAQ submission
- 5604n class summmary 10/9 by Smith, Jones, and Wilson

- No. VA students now have accounts also on nova1.cs.vt.edu which
is in the CS lab in the Telestar building. Check with the main CS
office or the GTA for access to the room. You can also use "telnet"
to reach it. Your account id and password is the same as you use
for quizes, except if your password did not have at least one number
or one upper case letter, the digit 1 was added. If you have any
problems, call Steve Chen, with office telephone number (703)698-6046
and office hours: Monday - Thursday : 1:00 - 6:00pm.

- No. VA class Mon. 11/6 will be in the Library, from 6:30-8:30.

- The FAQ file reflects questions and comments for the first weeks.
- There is a new entry on the Table of Contents to access
Summaries of Class Sessions. Please turn in any you plan to write
BEFORE looking at those done by others in the class.

- Quizes are now available
over the Web. To access these you should use the login ID you
chose for video.cs.vt.edu, and the password given for that system.
Note that I entered your password as best as I could read it,
using only lower case letters, and including no more than 8 characters.
If you want to take a quiz and are not in the list below, or
want your password changed, send email to fox@vt.edu.
