Abstract:
Another model of information is that it is structured as hypertext, or, if
multiple media types are involved, as hypermedia (see Unit MM). This
perspective has implications regarding creation and use of information,
interface and information system design, and the relative roles
of authors and readers. We
explore these issues: from an historical perspective, from the viewpoint of
typical hypertext systems and hyperbases, and from an orientation of
system software and data interchange.
This Unit has two articles and several laboratory exercises.
There are some course notes available using the Web.
There are much more extensive course notes available using KMS.
On reserve in the library is a supplementary
videotape on Intermedia, which is the focus of one of the readings
and is being shown in class.
