Study Questions

You should be able to answer each of the following questions.

  1. Why should we bother with hypertext when we have search systems, menu systems, and editors?
  2. What is the essense of hypertext - from the perspectives of: document modeling and representation, user manipulation of texts, document interchange, electronic publishing, and computer interface work?
  3. What are some of the challenges regarding designing hyperbases so that the interfaces are readily usable?
  4. What are anchors, links and webs and how do they relate to each other and to implementation of hypertext systems and services?
  5. What type of DataBase Management System is used in Intermedia, and why? Why might an object-oriented DBMS be better?
  6. What changes to operating systems and interface systems should be made so that ubiquitous hypertext access is supported, across wide area networks and across all applications on a computer system?
