Unit Highlights

Lecture/Motivating Question:

How can we construct large archives of information where the structure of each document is easily identifiable by humans and computers, facilitating interchange, printing, display, searching, and reuse?

Computer Exercises:

The Lector and ICA software can be run on fox.cs.vt.edu. The SoftQuad HoTMetaL package will run on video.cs.vt.edu or on PC-type systems. Since some people cannot easily use the X Window System, the activities with X are optional, and an alternative exercise (with Panorama) is given for those who can more easily use PC systems.
