There are two main types of effort required. First, the readings (see the next section) should be carefully studied, keeping unit objectives in mind (see the previous section). Second, students should work with hypertext systems and hyperbases. In the former category are KMS, Adobe Acrobat, and the World-Wide Web (WWW). In the latter category is the Hypertext Compendium that includes many of the key hypertext and hypermedia articles published by ACM. Also, a variety of hypertext data is available over WWW.
Note that it is wisest to do the readings before the exercises, though you may want to experiment a little with the systems earlier, to motivate and provide a concrete foundation for the articles.
