Searching for employee data in the Banner System

Scenario:

Professor Smith has married and moved to a new house. His personal data in the Banner System needs to be updated.

The secretary for his department accesses the system with her login and password, then accesses the data on Professor Smith by typing in his employee number. She makes the proper changes in the address and marital status of the professor, saves the form, and exits the system.

Claims Analysis

Individuals are stored in the data base by a unique employee code number allowing for secrecy.

  • but, numbers are hard to remember causing the secretary to have difficulty in looking up individuals.

Department personnel are able to make changes to the data in the system as needed.

  • but, too many individuals able to make changes may cause data to be corrupted.
  • but, some individuals may use the data on another employee without the employee's permission.
  • but, having to save the data manually, may cause data to be lost if employee forgets to save.
