Scenario | Claims Analysis

Scenario for training a new user of the Banner System using 'real' data in the training simulation.

Scenario:

During the past month, ten new workers have been hired throughout Virginia Tech. It is now time for them to go through training to use the Banner System so that they are able to enter the proper data into this university wide system.

The employees meet in the computer lab and begin their training session. As they begin to learn the system, they are able to call up actual data pertaining to their department. During the training they learn to use the Banner System by manipulating data on various employees from their department.

Claims Analysis:

Training on the system prior to using it allows the employee to gain confidence and skill in using the system correctly.

  • but, different employees may need more time to learn the system then is provided in the training.

Training on the system using actual data allows the employee to gain experience and learn using 'real-life' situations.

  • but, the data used during training may be corrupted in a manner that would harm the individual associated with the data.
  • but, information on an employee may be viewed by others in the class who do not have access to that data.
  • but, individual data may be changed to harm or help someone else.
