(Scenario 1 - Checking Homework Assignment Due Dates)
This participant's most common goal is "to check assignment due dates."This participant accomplishes this goal in the same manner that Participant #3 accomplishes his most common goal.
(Scenario 2 - Reading Class Notes)
This participant's second most common goal is "to read the notes for class."Participant #4 starts from the Calendar and uses "Hacking" as an example. The "Hacking" link takes this participant to the "Hacking and Security" page. Participant #4 checks the list of links one by one and clicks on the "Class Notes on Hacking" link. This participant checks the links comprised of slide-like titles and sub-titles, and most of them lead to a pages containing relatively lengthy articles. Participant #4 determines that there are three pairs of links pointing to the same page: "Gang War in Cyberspace" with "True Story of a Hacker", "A Mail Bomb" with "Terror on the Internet", and "US White House Hacked" with "Breaking and Entering". The "cracker programs" link takes him to an outside page; the "a sense of ethics" link takes him to the middle of the paper "What is a Hacker" and checking into the paper linked to "there are benefits" leads to three broken links. This participant clicks the "Back" button twice to get to the "Hacking and Security" page. The "Notes on Security" link takes him to an outside page, and the "In-Class Project" sections contains a short paragraph with two links to reading materials. (Participant Comment: He would like to see more guidelines in the "In-Class Project" section; for example, things like the requirements associated with writing homework assignments.) The "References" link goes to a page with a list of the references related to a given topic. The participant checks a few of the reference links and finds that some of them do not work. (Participant Comment: The number of links in the class notes is enormous. If he attempts to re-read something, it's very hard to re-create the path. Ultimately, he may need to go to the "Index of Pages" in order to find something by topic.)
(Scenario 3 - Checking Links to Other Places Containing Interesting Information)
This participant's third most common goal is "to check links to other places containing interesting information."There's no specific way to achieve this goal; however, this participant typically uses links found in the reference section. But, sometimes the links located in "Notes" sections do the same thing. (Participant Comment: Outside links are useful, but they may result in becoming "side-tracked.")
