Mary Beth Rosson (rosson@vt.edu)
HCI (or other behavioral, experimental design, etc.) courses taken:
I haven't taken any of the HCI courses ;-) but did teach a pilot version of this class as a 6724 seminar last spring. I also teach 1-2 sections of the junior-level HCI course, which is very similar to the course taught by Dr. Hartson (CS 5714). I have considerable background in psychology and experimental design.

Software development skills:
I have worked only on research prototypes, mostly in Smalltalk. I am quite familiar with the object-oriented paradigm in general, including building tools and environments for support of learning and reuse. I am reasonably conversant with HTML and basic Web authoring applications.

Research interests:
I work on a variety of topics in HCI--right now, focussing on network communities (especially the support of educational activities) and on programming environments (agents and OOP). I am trying to begin a research program in problem-solving environments.

Personal information:
I am married (to the head!) and have a 9-year old daughter Erin. I like to run (usually at lunch), hike, garden, and I'm a big fan of college and professional sports. I also am quite involved in professional activities, e.g., helping to organize conferences like CHI and OOPSLA.

Known schedule constraints:
Aside from this class and my office hours TH 9:30-11am, I have a regularly scheduled meeting every other week on Fridays at 3:30. (But I'm sure other commitments will soon develop :-)
