DL Project Suggestion: Emerge

• Number of people: 2-3
• Goal: To get NCSA Emerge operational at Virginia Tech, and to make it interoperate with MARIAN.
• Contact information: The developer of Emerge is Joe Futrelle (futrelle@ncsa.uiuc.edu). The proposer of this project, who is involved in NSDL, is Professor Su-Shing Chen (schen@ecn.missouri.edu), whose student working on Emerge is Chee-Yoong Choo (c733483@showme.missouri.edu). • Required background: interest in learning about Emerge and collaborating with DL experts from NCSA, U. Missouri
• Description:

  This project would begin with installing Emerge over the WWW, contacting the NCSA developers and staff at Missouri as needed. Then it would involve PhD students France and Goncalves in connecting Emerge with MARIAN to achieve interoperability. The Missouri group is playing a lead role in NSDL, so Emerge is likely to be heavily involved in NSDL. Toward that end we should look into "client-side multimedia plug and play interfaces in Java for various educational communities."
