DL Project Suggestion: ENVISION

• Goal: Complete converting ENVISION to Java and document it for reuse

• Required background: familiarity with Java and interface development
• Description: As part of our work on digital libraries, the Envision project ran from 1991-1995, wherein the Envision interface was developed. It includes a query window, a results list window, and a results visualization window. See details in Lucy Nowell's dissertation. Look in particular at the figures, especially the first several.

  This project aims to complete the porting of ENVISION to Java, replacing the old C/C++ system for X Windows. Most of the porting was done into a Java application by Subhag Oak through a Spring 2000 independent study. But the software must be made to run server side and to have a look more like the original design. We also want to document and package it so that it can be used by other sites, including those involved in NDLTD.
