Tefko's Suggestion: 1. Deliverable today should be a proposal for a larger deliverable. 2. That deliverable should be: * An article and report, dealing with issues and examples of IR education. 3. A good model is what is cited in the CHI booklet, that is the report and CACM article by Denning et al. They defined CS and discussed the various areas. 4. Thus, we should define the core of IR, define IR. 5. Then we should publish this in CACM, J. of LIS Ed., and possible a journal of Medical Informatics. 6. Content should be organized in a matrix. The dimensions are: * CS, LIS, other * Topics / knowledge module areas 7. Benefits include: * Clarify the split between CS, LIS versions. * Building bridges between those communities, that will help fill job needs and allow development of cross- disciplinary fields like Digital Libraries. * Develop bridges across. 8. Supplemental Report: * Longer version * Include samples of curricula, ... 9. Process: * SIGIR Ed. Committee should produce these deliverables. * SIGIR EC or Ed. Committee should appoint the chief editor, and there should be about 3 other writers. * Review and revision is needed, including by committee.
