Online Cartography Resources
The explosion of the World Wide Web has helped to create a number of useful
online map resources. These include everything from historical maps to road
maps to geographic maps. Here is a list of resources including brief
descriptions:

Geological Data Library
A library of geological data that can be used with a number of public
domain software utilities to produce maps on ones own computer. Data
sets are included for each of the United States in the areas of:
Elevation Models, Line Graphs, and Land Use/Land Cover.

A description of hardcopy maps available from the USGS including
online images demonstrating the features of each map. A variety of
maps are available including historical and geological.

A description of hardcopy maps available from the USGS of world
features. The index includes images that show the details of each map
as well as brief descriptions. Maps included in the index include
political maps, seismic maps, and topographic maps, as well as others.

Earthshots
An educational library containing detailed sattelite images of the
effects of various man-made and natural occurances on the geography
of the earth.

A comprehensive site for interactive map creation. The user fills out a
form which includes map longitude and latitude boundaries as well as options
for various map features to be displayed over top of the map. These include
options like country boundaries, topography, and plate tectonics information.

The Journal of the Mapping Sciences Institute of Australia. Contains abstracts
of articles found in the biannual journal dating back to December 1994, as
well as subscription information for the hard copy full text journal.

A site designed to help the road traveler by Geosystems Global Corporation.
Users can get road maps of long distance journeys as well as downtown street
layouts with landmarks. In addition, given an origin and a destination,
the system will plan out the fastest or shortest trip a driver could take
with approximate times to each landmark or intersection.
