This example shows the effects of audio compression at various levels of quality. The script is "Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their world." Recording was done with a Power Macintosh 6100/60AV using SoundMachine, and on an NT machine with Sound Recorder.
File 1 was recorded at CD quality on the NT machine as a wav file.
Files 2 and 3 were captured using AU Record, mu-law, low pass filter. File 1 is ".au" for 22.3kHz. File 2 is ".au" for 8kHz.
File 4 was captured using AIFF(C) Record at 22.3kHz. It is ".aiff" and has no compression.
File 5 is the mono 22kHz, 8 bit form and file 6 is at 11kHz.
Files 6 and 7 were created on an IBM Thinkpad running Windows 2000 with WINAMP. Instructions used can be found online regarding how to compress audio files.
