Models: IRIS's Intermedia System
- The IRIS project at Brown University led to the Intermedia system.
- This system kept a separate database of links, and so links could refer to any objects, including read-only ones.
- However, this meant that special applications were needed for editing each media type, so that changes would lead to changes in anchors too, thus allowing the links to still apply (or to be deleted if anchors are removed).
- Intermedia ran on Macintosh systems under AUX, and so eventually became obsolete.
- Storyspace is one successor to this system, turned to by some authors of materials that were accessed through Intermedia, like the Dickens Web.
