Authoring: multimedia integrator
- In 1990 a research team at Virginia Tech proposed the Integrator as a model for authoring of multimedia development.
- The interface is based on the idea of a musical score, with tracks for each logical input or output device.
- A pool of multimedia objects can be drawn from, and used to instantiate objects selected from the palette of multimedia object types.
- The palette includes other special types of objects: interaction, conditional, composite, link, and time-relationship.
- Mapping of Integrator output to HyTime was the subject of one Masters project.
- A prototype ran as a Macintosh supporting the interface and a DVI system performing the multimedia application.
- Systems like IconAuthor, Director, and Authorware now support many of the capabilities proposed for the Integrator.
