Networking: Cell Switching

• Cell-Switching Architectures:
• A) Each port is connected to a shared data bus, whose speed determines the overall throughput. Information flowing between one pair of nodes is temporarily suspended when it flows between another pair of nodes.
• B) A multi-stage switching matrix allows all connections to proceed simultaneously. This gives parallelism and good throughput, but makes multicasting difficult.
