SCHEDULE


4 field trips have been scheduled and more are being planned.
(These start 2/6 so please follow the preceding link for details.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SENDING MAIL: HOMEWORKS, QUIZES

  1. There is a form pointed to from the Table of Contents page that will allow you to send mail automatically to both the instructor and GTA.
  2. If you instead send email about the course (for questions, exercises, quizes, etc.), please address it to 4984i@fox.cs.vt.edu so the computer will redirect it to both the GTA and instructor. Please also put "4984" in the Subject line. If you omit "4984" from the Subject line your mail is likely to be missed by the instructor for a long time, and the instructor will not be considered responsible for any such delay.
  3. When you wish to take a quiz, you must use go through an authentication and logging procedure. You will be prompted for your username, and should supply your last name, with only the first letter in upper case. Then you will be prompted for a password. That password is one you should pick and tell the instructor about, using email, so he can record it in the computer files for the course.
  4. When you complete a quiz, send your answers by email to 4984i@fox.cs.vt.edu immediately. Time details on when you start the quiz will be automatically logged, and your email carries a timestamp, so be sure to finish your quiz within the time period allowed.

COMPUTER ACCOUNTS


Half of the accounts on video.cs.vt.edu are set up and so can be used. The rest should be up soon. Mail from the instructor will be sent to your account there, so please forward mail to your usual mail reader site if you do not expect to login to video regularly.

ASSIGNMENT 2


Be sure to read Chapters 4 and 5 before the field trip to the TV Studio on 2/6-7.

EXERCISE 2


This will include capture of audio, images from video, photos.
It will be done in the New Media Center in the Library during the field trip there, so be sure to arrive on time.

NEW SOFWARE FOR THE INSTRUCTOR MACHINE


Britannica Online can be accessed through NetScape from that machine
Sound Edit 16 allows audio capture, playback and manipulation

GTA OFFICE HOURS


These will be posted soon (accessible from Table of Contents), and will include time in Derring 2069. Please let the instructor know if you have firm conflicts with those hours.
