Design Issues for a Dexter-Based Hypermedia System

Excerpt:

This article discusses experiences and lessons learned from the design of an open hypermedia system, one that integrates applications and data not "owned" by the hypermedia. The work was conducted under the auspices of the DeVise project at the computer science department of Aarhus University. Denmark [5]. The DeVise project is developing general
tools to support experimental system development and cooperative design in a variety of application areas including large engineering projects. The intensely collaborative, open ended work characteristics of such settings made demands beyond the cross linking traditionally supported by hypermedia. These include a shared database, access from multiple platforms, portability, extensibility and tallorability. (For a detailed discussion of our engineering project use setting and its CSCW and hypermedia requirements. see [3, 4].)
