One can:
- Retouch a Scanned Image;
- Scan, Import, and Export Images;
- Use Paint and Editing Tool Options;
- Use the Type Tool;
- Make Selections;
- Use the Fill Tools;
- Select Colors;
- Paste Selections;
- Manipulate Images;
- Resize Images;
- Convert Images;
- Make Color Corrections;
- Modify Images with Filters;
- Print; and
- Calibrate.
To Retouch a Scanned Image: - Select the Image/Adjust/Variations submenu;
- In sequence, use Midtones, Shadows, Highlights and then Saturation;
- For each aspect, vary the control from Fine to Coarse depending on severity of correction needed;
- Save new versions and repeat the process till a proper looking image results.
For more precise color correction: - Choose Show Info from the Window menu to display the Info palette;
- Select the Image/Adjust/Levels submenu;
- Select Preview;
- Click the white point (right) eyedropper;
- Use Command-space and then click on a region of image with white to magnify;
- Read off from Info when find whitest and then click;
- Undo by holding Option and then Reset if err;
- Zoom out with Option-Command-space;
- Repeat with the black dropper;
- Adjust Gamma by moving the middle of the triangles of the top slider, for the Levels histogram, to right of the densest region;
- Click OK to fix lighting;
- Select Image/Adjust/Color Balance and click on Preview;
- Adjust each of the 3 colors as needed and click OK;
- Crop any unwanted border using Tool Bar, left, 3rd down crop tool and clicking in center when done;
- Select Image/Image Size and adjust as needed;
- Save As the result.
If the image size is not proper, one can interpolate. Choose File/Preferences/General and pick Bicubic for best quality.
Color Corrections are made using Image/Adjust and the various submenus given.
Try the Auto settings first. The finest control is with Image/Adjust/Curves. With that, the pencil choice at the bottom gives most control. Now consider again key aspects of color correction. For specifying the number of gray levels use Image/Map/Posterize. For equalizing brightness values use Image/Map/Equalize.
