Here is some information on how to get started:

1. Getting Doom (shareware.  Unfortunately, in order to create new levels
you need a registered copy):

2. The cs383  website where the quiz files are:
(If you are using a shareware version of Doom, supposedly all you have to do is 
rename each *.wad file to doom1.wad.  The wad files are the configuration files 
for each adventure/dungeon/quiz)

Official WAD Designers' Handbook, Release 2.0 can be downloaded from:

You'll also need a level editor (I haven't found on for Sun yet).  A good 
reference is a link off of the online handbook. (Since there are soo many 
utilities for working on Doom files, I thought it best to leave it up to the
