HTML/RealAudio/VoxWare/Video Tutorials --

Designed to be viewed over the modem pool at 14.4 or greater (Voxware and RA tutorials), or over the campus network (video tutorials or Voxware/RA tutorials).

These tutorials are GIF (extracted from the above movies) images accompanied by Voxware or RealAudio narration. To utilize the Voxware or RealAudio narration, be sure you download the plugin or player and properly install it on your machine.

The QuickTime videos were created using Cameraman, QuickEdit, SoundMate, MoviePlayer, and Internet Movie Tool software. The audio was compressed using IMA 4:1 compression and the videos were Fast Start enabled using Internet Movie Tool. To take full advantage of these videos, you should be using Netscape 3.x with the QuickTime plugin and QuickTime 2.1 (available for Macs and PCs at quicktime.apple.com). A screen resolution of 800x600 is recommended. If you are missing any of the above tools, you can still view the videos as long as you have a Quicktime movie player on your machine. You will have to wait, however, for the videos to completely download before they play. If your screen resolution is less than 800x600, some of the videos will not fit properly on the screen.

** Please keep in mind that these videos were purposely made small and simple. There are no fancy transitions, titles, or sound effects. This was done in an attempt to keep file sizes as small as possible for delivery over the Internet. In addition, since the audio consumes the majority of the file size (the video is only 4 FPS), we tried to keep the audio track as small as possible. For this reason, there are few delays between audio segments, and the narrator maintains a relatively fast speech rate. This, however, does not prevent the user from replaying any portion of a video. The purpose of these tutorials is as a supplement to the material in the CS1604 course. As such, they are not necessarily meant to be a stand-alone tutorial, although you may find that some of them can be used that way. They are meant as an introduction to using each piece of software. It is assumed that the user has some prior knowledge of computers and the tool.
