Creating a Nickname

Within Eudora, you can create nicknames for people with whom you correspond. A nickname is an easily remembered, shorter substitute for an actual e-mail address or group of addresses. Eudora allows nicknames to be used in the "To:", "Cc:", and "Bcc:" fields.

  1. To create a nickname, move to the Special menu and choose Nicknames. The Nicknames window will appear with these items:
  2. To add a new nickname, click New. You will be asked for the new nickname.
  3. Type the nickname. If you were creating a name for the Computing Center instructor's ID, you might type:
               teacher

  4. In the Address(es) box type the person's complete e-mail address, for example: inst01@vt.edu. If you would like to add the proper name to the address, put it in parentheses after the e-mail address.
                inst01@vt.edu (Leslie Walker)
  5. You may use the "Notes:" box to enter any text you'd like to associate with this nickname, such as the addressee's company, title, phone number, etc. No one sees the note information but you. Click in the "Notes:" box and type whatever you wish.
  6. Once you have finished typing addresses and notes, you can click New again to make another nickname.
  7. When you are finished making additions or changes, close the "Nicknames:" window. A dialog box will then appear asking whether the additions/changes you made to the nicknames should be saved or discarded. Select the appropriate response.

Changing and Removing Nicknames

  1. Move to the Special menu and choose Nickname. The addresses and notes associated with the nickname will appear in the "Address(es):" and "Notes:" boxes. These may be directly edited.
  2. Click Rename, if you wish to change the nickname itself. A dialog box will appear to allow you to change the nickname.
  3. Click Remove to remove a nickname. When you are finished editing or making deletions, close the "Nicknames:" window. A dialog box will appear asking if the changes should be saved or discarded. Select the appropriate response.
