Using Eudora for the First Time
Find and start the Eudora application:
- Locate Eudora by looking for the Eudora icon.
- Open Eudora by double clicking its icon.
Notice that the Eudora menu bar has appeared at the top of your screen.

Setting the Configuration
- If this is the first time you have used Eudora, you need to provide Eudora with all the
information it needs to properly handle your mail. On the menu bar, go to the Special
menu and choose Configuration. The configuration dialog box will appear.
- Notice that the POP account: dialog box is highlighted. The highlighting
indicates where your typed characters will be placed. Type in your PID followed by the
"@" sign followed by "mail.vt.edu"; this is where Eudora will go to
check for your incoming mail. For example, if your name were Pat Green and your PID were
"pgreen", you would type:
POP account: pgreen@mail.vt.edu
Note: Enter this in all lower case letters.
- Press TAB to move to the Real Name: box and type your real name.
In our example, you would type:
Real Name: Pat E. Green
- Press TAB to skip the Connection Method: radio buttons and the SMTP Server:
box.
- Press TAB to move to the Return Address: box. Type the e-mail address that you
tell others to use when they want to send e-mail to you. Always use "vt.edu" for
the address portion. Using the example above, you would enter:
Return Address: pgreen@vt.edu
- For now, skip the other boxes and buttons on the screen.
- Click OK.
