Creating and Sending a Mail Message

To send mail to someone, use the menu bar and move to Message.

  1. In the Message menu, choose New Message.
  2. In the "To:" field, type the e-mail address of the recipient. If you were sending mail to Chris Hall, who has a PID of chall, at "vt.edu", you would enter:
     	chall@vt.edu
  3. Press TAB to move to the "Subject:" field. Enter a subject that describes this note.
  4. Press TAB to move to the "Cc:" field (complimentary or carbon copy). If you wish to send a copy of this note to Lee Smith (lsmith@vt.edu) and Jan Jones (jjones@vtvm1.cc.vt.edu), you would type:
    	lsmith@vt.edu,jjones@vtvm1.cc.vt.edu

Note: Separate the addresses by commas with no spaces.

  5. Press TAB to move to the "Bcc:" (blind copy) field. If you wish to send a blind copy to someone, type the e-mail address(es) here. If not, tab past this field.
  6. Press TAB to move to the body portion of the message. This is the portion after the "Attachments:" field below the horizontal line.
  7. Enter the body of your note here. If you have more than one line of text to enter, the text automatically wraps to the next line. And, if you have more than one screen of text in your note, you can fill up the first screen and keep typing. An empty screen will appear to hold your additional text.
  8. When you are finished writing your note, click Send. If this is the first time you have sent mail, a password dialog box will appear. Type your e-mail PID password in the box and click OK or press RETURN. Several messages will appear on your screen as the mail note is sent to the server.
