Replying to a Mail Message

From the mail message summary window (the In mailbox), select or open the mail message to which you wish to reply.

  1. While the original message is open and displaying on your screen, choose Reply from the Message menu. A new window containing the original message will appear. Each line of the original message will be highlighted and prefixed with a ">" which allows you to intersperse your comments within the body of the original message and allows the reader to distinguish the original message from your reply.
  2. Move the I-beam into the new window. Position the I-beam where you wish to enter your text and click. Then press RETURN. An insertion point (|) will appear to indicate where your text will go into the message. If you wish to reply in several places in the original message, position the I-beam at each desired place, click, and press RETURN to open an insertion point.
  3. When you have finished typing your reply, click Send. The normal outgoing mail messages will appear to show you the progress of your message.
  4. Close the original mail message.
  5. Proceed with processing your mail, as needed.

Note: Always check the To: field when you reply to a message that has been forwarded to you. Your mail message may go to the person who originally sent the message, not the person who sent it to you.
