Introduction to the Internet/WWW Intro

The Internet grew out of the National Science Foundation Network. The previous link is a Quicktime digital movie describing the early growth and development of the NSF network. (You will need a Quicktime plug-in to view it . The file is 4MB in size and will take a long time to download over a modem).

The Internet is much more than web pages. It is a conduit through which data passes, and this data can be e-mail, files transmitted through File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Interactive Relay Chat (IRC) messages, Video Conferencing image streams, as well as the familiar web pages.

The following links provide access to a variety of documents that exist on the Net that people have authored as introductions to the Internet. They are located in a variety of machines throughout the world, but because they are connected to the Internet, they are all just a mouse-click away from your viewing.
