STUDENT SLIP ADDRESSES

VT STUDENTS: UNLESS YOU'VE REQUESTED OTHERWISE, YOUR SLIP ADDRESS WILL BE DEACTIVATED MAY 15, 1995. If you are currently using an individual SLIP address and plan to attend 1995 Summer Sessions or to return to Virginia Tech in the Fall, you should convert to Default SLIP before May 15, 1995. Default SLIP gives Internet access to everyone with a PID. Individual SLIP addresses are no longer required. To use Default SLIP, get the improved BEV software, which includes Netscape (a great World Wide Web package) and many other applications.

Download the software from the Virginia Tech Gopher (gopher.vt.edu), at:

Information Systems Computing Center/Software Hut/Windows/Network Applications/Blacksburg Electronic Village for University Affiliates/.

Or, you may take two high density diskettes to Hutcheson 220 to obtain a copy of the Macintosh or Windows software.

Default SLIP will NOT work for those who:

Students needing to extend their deactivation date, or register for a new IP address and hostname may do so at Student Telecommunications, 128 Burruss Hall.

You are encouraged to begin using default SLIP as soon as possible, so any unexpected problems may be resolved before individual SLIP addresses are deactivated.
