A PID has two parts: a unique Personal IDentification (usually your first initial and last name) and an associated, alterable password. Together, they serve as your electronic mailbox and key, respectively. The PID also is used to control access to other university computer systems and services, like the inbound modem pool (a pay service) that allows off-campus access to on-campus systems. Your PID also allows you to use VTTELNET and your PID password is associated with your SLIP account (if you have one).
Student PIDs are prepared in advance of the school year for all known enrolled students. Come in person with your ID card to any Computing Center campus service location to activate your PID and password. If a PID does not exist for you, applications are available at the service locations.
